GOD SPEAKS - INTRODUCTION

I wrote these articles, "God Speaks" for the Spectator newspaper in the 80's. I wrote them in memory of an American writer, Erskine Scott Wood, whose book, The Discourse in Heaven, was taken off the market in the early fifties. He was banned, evidently far too irreligious for the mentality of the populace at that time. I found to my dismay that it was the same in the 80's, as the Spectator newspaper was closed down by the religious community in my town, by being bombed. The front door was blown out as a protest.

As the paper had received threats from the evangelical groups that if I was not removed from their staff, they would write to the advertisers they would cease to buy their products. I was not removed. The door was bombed. Advertisers ceased submitting, and so it was assumed they had done their job well.

Erskine would have dignitaries from the world of religion and politics arrive at the pearly gates to speak to God. As they were mostly his emissaries they assumed they would get in. God of course always surprised them by either not knowing who they were, or else giving them a resounding verbal beating for misrepresenting Him.

Well, Erskine was humorous, but these earthly saints did not find him so. I did and so in his memory I dedicate a couple of these discourses with God to him.

The next chapters punctuate what is needed in order to "wake up."
